New Mill Male Voice Choir are delighted to host soprano Ann Wilkes in ‘Stars That Bloom’, a concert in support of well-known local charity, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice. The concert will take place at 7:15pm on Saturday 14 September, at Saint Peter’s Parish Church, Huddersfield. Tickets are £12.
The title is taken from the poem ‘Forget Me Not’, written in 1841 by 16-year-old African-American, Ann Plato:
“When the bright moon dispels the gloom,
And various are the stars that bloom,
And brighten as the sun at noon,
Forget me not.”
True to this sentiment, the concert will celebrate the best sung music of all kinds: classics, show tunes, folk arrangements and evergreen hits; bringing the power and range of the male voice choir together with the brightness of Ann’s classically-trained soprano voice.

ANN WILKES
"Let me be, perhaps, one of the first critics to rave about the pure bliss of her gorgeously creamy voice" - Yorkshire Times
Yorkshire-born Ann Wilkes is a first-class graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music. A sought-after Oratorio singer, she also enjoys contemporary music: she was a featured soloist in the premier of Citizens of Nowhere by Anna Appleby, and Fireworks by Grace-Evangeline Mason, a solo written for her to perform with symphony orchestra. Ann explores the folk repertoire and performs with psychedelic-folk band Cobalt Chapel. She lives in Manchester.
NEW MILL MALE VOICE CHOIR
Formed in 1991 at a local pub and led by a former Welsh opera singer, New Mill Male Voice Choir combines strong musical ability with the comradeship rooted in those first days. Under the guidance of current Musical Director, Dorian Kelly, with accompanist Emma McKenna, the choir performs to a standard enabling it to take the stage with leading artists. Two years ago, after appearing with the choir, Bass-Baritone opera star, Sir Willard White, agreed to become its President – a huge honour.
